  From the website of the Royal College of Surgeons: ‘Charles Langley Owen qualified MB BCh from Cambridge University in 1930 after taking the Conjoint Diploma four years earlier. He was house surgeon to University College Hospital, resident surgical officer to St Bartholomew's Hospital, Rochester and honorary assistant surgeon to Hereford General Hospital. He died on 17 December 1977.’ There’s a Charles Langley Owen b.1901 in Staffordshire d.1977 married to a Phyllis Margaret b.1905. Both were buried Tidebrook, Wadhurst. The relationships shown here (parents, wife) are taken from a marriage certificate dated 8 Nov 1927 of a wedding at St Anne’s, Westminster. Charles, at 26, is already MRCS, RCP. He was marrying Robina, the 19-year-old daughter of a retired Naval Officer, Robert Sinclair. She worked at Lewisham Hospital (a nurse?). Witnesses included M.Beatrice V. Owen, Charles’ mother. Charles L Owen had two marriages, the first to Robina Sinclair in 1927, when he was still at Cambridge. Robin was born within two years. The marriage ended in a very public divorce. In 1933, Charles married Phyllis Margaret Jeffrey (1905-1993), the daughter of a civil servant, who was 27 when she married and had two children with him, Penelope and Felicity Owen. In 1939, Charles and Phyllis were living in Ross-on-Wye, where she worked as a Red Cross nurse.
